Modernism Matters is a project that arose from a passion for the built environment and modern architecture. Through photographs and regular blog posts showcasing 20th century buildings, the intention is to inspire greater appreciation for the type of architecture that many of us encounter in our daily lives.

About me

Hi, I'm John. Having been an avid appreciator of 20th century architecture for many years, I’ve now started to write about it and delve more seriously into photographing buildings.

I did Geography and American Studies for my first degree, developing a keen interest in US cities and architecture. Following a change of direction, and gaining postgraduate qualifications in a different area, I've since spent much of my career as a senior/principal researcher in the UK public sector. I returned to university in recent years to study on an undergraduate programme in Architectural History.
